Green Heron

Photos were taken at Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge in Florida on May 11, 2010. A beautiful, windy, partly cloudy day at Merritt Island. All photos were taken on Black Point Wildlife Drive except for one. Biolab Road and Canaveral National Seashore were closed to the public due to Friday’s Shuttle Launch.

Clapper Rails

I took a photo on March 16, 2010 of the adults mating. These photos were taken at the same location. There were a total of 8 Chicks.

American Avocets

Seven American Avocets were seen just past stop #7 alongside the rode in the drained salt marsh. This past Winter the marsh was covered in water and was the Winter home of thousands of migrating ducks. Local birders said they have never seen Avocets so close to the road on Black Point Drive. What a treat. My Mother got great looks from the Van. The birds were less than 30 feet away.
