Limpkin

I photographed this Limpkin in Mead Garden, Winter Park, Florida, on Wednesday, May 23, 2018. It was once very common in Florida, but due to the decline of its primary food source, the Florida Apple Snail, it is now listed as a SSC (species of special concern.) We are fortunate to have three of them residing in Mead Garden. For years there were none in the park and then one day several months ago four of them were here. Most days you can see two to three Limpkins in the Park.

Barred Owl 1st Year

I photographed this 1st Year Barred Owl in Mead Garden, Winter Park, Florida, on Friday, May 17, 2018. What a wonderful day for Birding. I was impressed by the size of this 1st Year Owl. The Parents usually have at least two Owlets but this year there was only one. This Owl must have been fed portions for two Owlets, as it seemed larger than the parents. Nice to see this youngster. He was busy hunting for its next meal.
